Surface Pro Review – Day 5: Remember that scene with Hulk & Loki…?

Here’s my final blog wrapping up my week long review of the Surface Pro. Read on for the verdict…

[In case you missed it, here's my Day 1 review 'Are you sure it's a pen, not a stylus?']

It’s been Marvel-ous

I’ve had a fun filled week test driving the Surface Pro and considering I have been waiting for this for so long, it had a lot to live up to.

What can I say? It smashed the competition like the Hulk smashed Loki in the Avengers ‘puny god’ scene.

This machine is small yet mighty. It’s sleek, chic and versatile. My Lenovo Twist is too big to carry around and I just don’t find the iPad as functional in comparison – the Surface Pro’s size is perfect for portability without sacrificing any awesomeness.

This week – thanks to the Surface Pro – I have been super productive, getting all sorts of work done in between meetings and on the move.

OK it’s not 100% perfect, but it’s pretty damn close – and for the first generation Pro edition of the Surface it’s an impressive piece of kit. If Microsoft commits to improving and releasing updated versions of this device, the other players in the tablet market could be up against some tough and possibly unexpected competition.

Interestingly, in the last couple of days Microsoft released Office 365 app for iPhone, opening the door to a huge new market – while adding even more value to subscribers. One thing is for sure, the guys and gals at Microsoft have certainly mastered the art of sticking their fingers into multiple pies.

[The MS Office 365 iPhone app is free but functionality is limited to Office 365 customers, it's also not available in the UK or Singapore app stores yet.]

Friday I’m in love

I’ve successfully used Surface Pro the whole week – without any temptation to go running back to my desktop or Lenovo Twist laptop. I’ve used it, abused it, carried it around everywhere and BOY has this little machine grown on me in the last week.

Fair enough – if you just need a tablet for browsing, reading emails and running a few apps then go for an iPad. If you want to buy your grandma a nice present, sure, then go for an iPad.

But if you want a tiny yet powerful, fully functioning mobile PC with a kick ass cloud productivity suite, look no further than the Surface Pro (and sign up for Office 365). It’s exactly what I have been waiting for.

I’ve taken Surface Pro through various different real life tests – kids, working in taxis, restaurants, bars,  a whole week of work and the scrutiny of twenty business women – it has survived them all, AND it can play WOW and Minecraft.

If only it could drink beer, it would be my new best friend.

The last word

We are a family that loves technology – across different forms and platforms – and we are discerning when it comes to our gadgets. The Surface Pro was welcomed into our Geekdom by the whole crew.

But don’t take my word for it…

Thanks for reading!
